Extremely rare. This 4 page annual report dated December 31, 1877 shows the gold and silver produced in the West and then carried by Wells Fargo Express. It covers production from 10 Western states: California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Dakota, Mexico, and British Columbia. The total ($98 million) is up $7.5 million from 1876, "the greatest previous annual yield in the history of the country." It notes in the statement that the yield of the Comstock Lode is 45% gold, with 37% gold for all bullion products in Nevada. The table is split into 4 categories: Gold Dust & Bullion by Express, Gold Dust & Bullion by Other Conveyances, Silver & Dore by Express, Ore & Base Bullion by Freight. Dakota is included this year, credited with $1.5 million in gold. Exports to India and China are also discussed. Authored by Jno. J. Valentine, General Superintendent. 8.5 x 11" Some creases.
