Rare Wells, Fargo & Co. Express cover with preprinted address to Capt. Thos. Buckley, Supt. Bodie Tunnel and Mining Company, Bodie, Mono County, Cal. 2 cent stamp. Postally unused. Buckley is listed as the supt. in 1879-1882. According to the United States Annual Mining Review & Stock Ledger (1879), the company was made of SF capitalists who wanted to drive a tunnel to intersect the Bechtel vein at depth (600 ft.). Robert Sherwood is president. In the 1880s, the company was involved in a lawsuit with the Tioga Mine.
