Rare location. Dateline Weaverville, Cal., May 11, 1863. No. 253.369, issued to Greenhood & Newbauer for $100 in (gold) coin to be paid at the Boston office. Red circular 20 cent California State Tax stamp and blue 2 cent IR stamp attached, both cancelled. 4 x 9" Folds. Herman Greenhood and Joseph Newbauer started an express operation from a base in Weaverville in late 1856. They purchased W. F. Rowe Express in 1858, connecting with Wells Fargo at Marysville.
