Dated San Francisco, July 1st, 1873 from the General Superintendent's Office, John J. Valentine. The public is hereby cautioned against purchasing two gold watches and two diamond spiral studs stolen from the Express treasure box on stage, near Mineral Hill, Nevada, on the night of June 25th, 1873. A liberal reward will be paid for their recovery. 7 1/2 x 10 inches; light staining at top.
Mineral Hill Nevada was an important mining and milling site for ores from that area, as well as treasure Hill and Hamilton. It was run by the Manhattan Silver Mining Co. for years around the 1869-1873 period. It would have been a good target for stage robbers because of the remote location, but in this case, the stage robber got the treasure box before any money was inside for transport. Nevada
