West End Chemical Stock, Trona, California Signed by F.M. "Borax Smith" as President. Issued for 15 preferred shares to Thomas Hunter in 1923, the company was incorporated in California in 1920. The company acquired it's properties at Trona, on the south side of Searles Lake from F.M. "Borax" Smith's controlled West End Consolidated Mining Company. The company owned the rights to extract the valuable brines from the Government owned deposit of potash and soda ash there. The company's plant at Searles Lake was connected with the Trona Railway. In early 1921, the company acquired a borax mine near Las Vegas, Nevada with ore tonnage in sight of 1,000,000 tons (Poor's Industrial Manual, 1925). It was a common sight to see the large Westend trucks traveling back and forth on the Death Valley Highway hauling loads of lime rock from the Westend Lime Quarry, 38 miles away in the Panamint Valley (Searle's Valley Story, 1975). In addition to borax, the company also marketed lime, soda ash and sodium sulfate. This is a rare piece that FH hasn't seen before. Great signature piece signed by F.M. (Borax) Smith as president. Also, signed by Norman Ellis as vice-president. VF. Uncanceled.
