These laws were adopted on August 3, 1867. Boundaries were the junction of the South and North Fork of the Mokelumne River and running thence up the said South Fork to the mouth of the Middle Fork following the South Fork to a point one mile above Pratt's Ranch. Thence across in a due northeast direction to the said North Fork and down that channel to the beginning. Signed by Ira H. Reed as secretary and Robert Briggs as chairman. West Point Quartz Mining District in Calaveras County had a narrow gold-silver vein. The gold was found in quartz with much pyrrhotite and lesser amounts of pyrite and chalcopyrite. Ira Reed reported in 1869 that the population of the district was 500, with five quartz mills. The mills have crushed 400 tons of rock. 200 tons have been sent to the Harris Mill in Sandy Gulch averaging $25.00 per ton. [Statistics of Mines and Mining in the states and the territories, 1870 by Rossiter Worthington Raymond, United States Dept. of the Treasury.] At a later date, platinum was also found in the quartz.City: Mokelumne HillCounty: CalaverasState: CADate:
