A trio of Western children's books, c1929-49, including: "Lone Cowboy, My Life Story," Will James, Charles Scribner's Sons, 1930, First Edition, hardback, 431 pp., stamped "Activity Therapies Department" inside fly leaf, children's scribbles inside cover front and rear, X-library, cover and binding worn but intact. Will James (1892-1942), was an artist and writer of the American West. Born Joseph Ernest Nephtali Dufault, in his early years he drifted, worked at several jobs, was briefly jailed for cattle rustling, served in the army, and began selling his sketches. In 1922 he sold his first of several books, "Bucking Horse Riders." In 1926 his most famous book, "Smoky the Cowhorse," was published, which won the Newbery Medal in 1927. "Lone Cowboy," his fictionalized autobiography, was written in 1930. He wrote his last book, "The American Cowboy," in 1942. In all, he wrote and illustrated 23 books. Other books included are: "What Kinda Cactus Izzat?," Reg Manning, J.J. Augustin Publisher, NY, 1949, hardback, 107 pp., front and back board detaching, 2" tears lower pages 11-14, cover and binding worn; "All About Amos 'n' Andy and Their Creators, Correll and Gosden," Rand McNally & Co., 1929, hardback, 127 pp., stamped Galesburg State Research Hospital Activity Therapies Department inside cover and fly leaf pages, X-library, cover and binding worn, but intact, staining on cover.
