One share to Roswell Otis and signed by chairman Peter Woodin and acting secretary John Bullin. Dated March 1835. Number 410. Early in the winter of 1834, a few persons indulging in a wish to emigrate to the West, made known to each other their determination. This company was centered at Hannibal, New York. Otis was one of those share-holders of the "Western Emigration Company" Otis financed and built the first pier in the harbor of Southport (Kenosha, Wisconsin). John Bullen Jr., son of the general, was an early settler, and for a while, sole Agent of the Emigration Company, and as deeply interested in its fortunes and issue as any other man. He was for many years engaged in mercantile business and was an extensive land holder. Woodin was selected as Chairman early on.
