3 stock certificates from Western Railroad Corp, charted in 1833 to develop a line from Worcester to western Mass. Operations to Springfield began in 1841. Merged with the Boston & Worcester Railroad to form the Boston and Albany Railroad in 1867. The signature of Josiah Quincy exists on 1 of these documents dated 1841. He, like his father and grandfather were named Josiah Quincy and was a mayor of Boston like them. He was actually Josiah Quincy III (1802-1888) but went by Jr. and was the 11th mayor of Boston from 1845-1849. He was also a founding member of the Boston Public library. Prag collection.
