Very early Massachusetts railroad. Number 148 issued to Samuel P. Langmaid for 7 shares on November 2, 1839. Signed by President Francis B. Wales (also president of the Taunton Branch Railroad). Rough cuts. Certificate itself is very nice! Hole punch cancelled. The Western Railroad Corporation was formed in 1833 to build a line from Worcester to Springfield, MA and beyond, which began operation in 1841. In 1854 they absorbed the Hudson & Berkshire Railroad. In 1867, they merged with the Albany & West Stockbridge Railroad and another line to form the new Boston & Albany Railroad. The Langmaid Terrace is a historic apartment complex at 359—365 Broadway in the Winter Hill neighborhood of Somerville, Massachusetts!
