A pair of rare Western railroad ephemera from the 1880s. Includes: 9" x 5.5" letterhead from The Coeur d' Alene Railway and Navigation Co., c1887, with letter signed by John McCormick; and a check drawn on an account for B.F. White, Forwarding and Commission Merchant, Terminus U. & N. R. (Utah Northern Railroad), Wyoming, Montana, to S.R. Buford & Co., Virginia City, Montana, with vignette of a steam engine, c1880, 7.5" x 3.75".
Simeon R. Buford opened the region’s largest grocery store in 1878. Buford’s was the supply point for most of southwestern Montana, including the infant “Butte City.”
Utah Northern Railroad existed from 1871 to 1878.
