This wood crate box is marked "Western Xpert/ 16 ga. 2 9/16in." and "2 1/2-1-6". The case is marked for "500" rounds. The chamber length for 16 ga. shells indicate a 1930's vintage for this box. In very good condition. The shells would have been 2 1/2 in. in length, 1 dram of powder, and size #6 shot. This would have been a great pheasant load in a 16 gauge shotgun. Unfortunately, the 16 gauge was a spectacular round for upland game hunting where the "sweet 16" hit like a 12 (gauge) and felt like (recoiled) a 20 (gauge). These are rare guns today and collectible. The box is rough sawed pine at 14 1/4 in. X 8 1/2 in. X 8in. In very good condition. From the Sherman collection.
