3.5-inch drill core of solid halite (NaCl) that is 8.5 inches long (~1.27 kilograms), and a single crystal of halite that is 3.5 x 2.75 x 1.75 inches (~465 grams). Same stuff as the tiny white stuff you shake out of that blue-labeled paper cylinder with the little girl carrying an umbrella. These two specimens are impressive for their size and may have come from exploration drilling for sulfur deposits in West Texas, potash deposits in Utah, or prospecting in oil fields that develop over salt domes anywhere around the world. Just don't put these in your aquarium as decorations.
