Overall frame size 44" x 38" Art size 35" x 29.5" Signed lower right in red outlined buffalo. Dan Muller. Painted 1935, hung 1935 at the Town House.

"Wild Eyed" is certainly one of the most striking of any of Dan Muller's paintings. It reflects a well earned knowledge of the cowboy genre, with soft purple pastels capturing the faded shadows of mountain cliffs, while the remaining low angle sun at dusk flashes bright light upon the highlights. Every major western artist captured this final sun setting moment - from Russell to Wyeth and so many more. Muller's command of musculature and longhorn detail render the steer charging right out of the canvas toward the viewer. It is a dramatic, exceptionally well captured scene.

In Muller's words: "Breakin' trail fer the' cocktail room ... directly over the' lounge they'd a painting of a wild-eyed longhorn steer a-headin' straight fer you ... a cowboy is jest dabbin' his rope over that critter's horns ... action ...jest plumb full o'ACTION ... and Western coloring too."

It is unquestionable that this is one of Muller's best, most powerful paintings.
