1872 Chicago: William Barber engraved U.S. Mint medal struck for the H.S. Everhard and Co. in July 1872. The medals were struck using bronze salvaged from a courthouse bell. Obverse features an angle with sword in hand flying over the burning Chicago skyline. The reserve portrays a Phoenix rising from the flames. The inscription notes it was made from the Chicago Court House bell. Minor rubbing on high points and scattered small marks. An attractive example of this popular medal. 500 struck. 51 mm, Bronze.
