Print area 6.5" x 12" on 11" x 17" heavy, high quality art paper. Unknown how many prints were created from woodcut. We sold a framed version of this piece, of the same size and quality in previous auction. These very clear, high quality giclee prints are few in number and created from pieces now sold into private collections. As such they represent the opportunity to own a piece of artwork from an incredible artist, unknown in life, whose work is only recently receiving the attention it deserves, thanks to the devotion and love of a fellow artist and Martin's best friend in life, Sarah Sweetwater. Sweetwater carefully cared for the collection after Martin's passing, opened a museum and built a special dedicated exhibit in honor of her friend and tried to explain her deep appreciation for William Forrest Martin's artistic talent. After her death, Sarah's daughters finally decided to offer Martin's archive at public auction, and after a year of online publication of photos, marketing to the art world and 2-3 public auctions that resulted in the sale of over half the collection to a few experienced collectors with a well-developed eye trained to recognize artistic talent of a higher caliber than average, Martin's work finally got the exposure required to grab the attention of some of the industries most discerning experts who not only noticed his work, but jumped at the opportunity to buy the remaining pieces put up for auction last December. The pieces in this sale are the last of the collection; every other piece in existence is now held privately and no additional pieces from William Forrest Martin exist that have not been made public. These prints may be the only chance more frugal collectors may ever encounter to be part of the exclusive and very small group that are lucky enough to own a piece of art from a Master artist as talented as William Forrest Martin, whose work remained hidden in plain sight until over decade after his death.
