12 William Howard Taft "Possum" postcards with some dupes. In January 1909, the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce hosted a banquet for President-elect Taft, where he requested a possum and taters dinner. The feast was a political move, as Taft was showing solidarity with both Black and white Southerners by eating a delicacy that was popular with both groups. They created a "Billy Possum" stuffed animal to compete with the "Teddy Bear," but Billy didn't go over well.
