1) Envelope with reverse showing the Windsor surround by Mountains: Grays' Peak, James' Peak, Arapahoe Peak, Longs Peak. Addressed to AJ Shottwell of Virginia Dale, Colorado. Corner Cover return address. 2) Letter associated with the envelope. Jacob Riblet writes to Shotwell to tell him that several assayers have dropped by and looked the ore sample. They agree it looks high in silver. However, history paints a different picture. "No history of Southwestern mining would be complete without some mention of nefarious schemes and schemers. In the Ajo area this element was represented by one A. J. Shotwell, alleged swindler, fake mine-stock promoter and general skullduggery expert. [Desert Magazine, 1964 - 04] 3) Stereoview of the hotel. Strong Contrast. In 1880 when it opened the Windsor was the creme de hotels of the city. According to Richard Ronzio, author of Silver Images of Colorado, "the 400-room Windsor was for years the cities finest. It was the first building to be wired for electricity in the state and, at least locally, was without peer."
