Lot of 49 stereoviews by H.H. Bennett, Kilburn City, Wisconsin for a series called Wanderings Among the Wonders and Beauties of Wisconsin Scenery. Most are of views of The Dells of the Wisconsin River. Also Devil's Lake and vicinity. The Dells is a 5 mile long gorge and canyons made of Cambrian sandstone. One features an early paddleboat. Most are 3.5" x 7" but 12 are larger (4" x 7"). H. H. Bennett began his career in 1865 when he bought a portrait studio in Kilbourn City. Bennett was able to achieve fame for a series of photographs he took of the nearby Dells of the Wisconsin River (see this collection). As Bennett's pictures of local scenery became popular in cities across the nation, sightseers began to flock to Kilbourn City to view the Dells in person. Bennett offered the tourists souvenir postcards and portraits and was able to build a new studio in 1875. Please inspect. (Prag Collection) Date: Location: Wisconsin HWAC # 54776
