Souvenir medal from The Centennial International Exhibition of 1876. Die pressed wooden medal, 1-1/2 inch, with hole through upper part. Obverse in center U.S. shield, around, "Souvenir D' Amerique/ 1776-1876." Reverse, center, shield with three lions, around, "Amulette Odorifferante De Perse." Listed in "Die Pressed Wooden Medals & Plaques of the 1876 Centennial" By Dr. Donald G. Tritt, for $250 fine, $200 average. Unlisted in Holland; Frossard; Haseltine; Spangengerger. The Centennial Expo was the first official World's Fair to be held in the United States, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from May 10 to November 10, 1876, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.
