Two sided Woodmen of the World badge. Obverse: white celluloid pin cover with W. of W. written on fallen log with axe embedded in it. Black ribbon with "In Memoriam" and a logo of a dove flying over a fallen log with an axe, a maul, a wedge, and "DUM TACET CLAMAT" below it. The lower third includes Westcliffe Camp, No. 309 Woodmen of the World, Westcliffe, Colo. Metal tassels hang from the bottom of the ribbon. On the reverse: a red/white/blue ribbon has two crossed American flags on the top third holds a circular badge with Woodmen of the World, the logo of a dove flying over a fallen log with an axe, a maul, a wedge, and "DUM TACET CLAMAT" displayed on it. The lower third on this side also includes Westcliffe Camp, No. 309 Woodmen of the World, Westcliffe, Colo. The slogan "DUM TACET CLAMAT" is typically translated as “Though silent, he speaks.” In cemeteries throughout the west, Dum Tacet Clamat is written on hand-carved gravestones paid for by an insurance company called the Woodmen of the World. In a time when many had no other form of insurance, this made sure that their ultimate resting place would be appropriately marked (hughgrahamcreative.com). Measures 3" x 8".
