Incorporated Jan 14, 1875, and capitalized at $12,000,000; 120,000 shares at $100 per. Signed by Robert Sherwood, President and Secretary (illegible). 1300 feet; 92.5 shares per foot. Comstock - Exchequer Mining Company Stock Certificate - Gold Hill, Storey County, NV - Datelined San Francisco July 30, 1866, certificate No. 853 for 50 shares made out to trustee, E. S. Peckham. It was incorporated July 19th, 1865, and had offices in San Francisco. The company was capitalized at $2,400,000; 80.000 shares at $300 per. The certificate has a plain black border and decorative text. A vignette of a seated woman is on the right. Signed by S. (Solomon) Heydenfeldt as president. Judge Heydenfeldt, a great legal mind of the day, presided over landmark mining cases including the Eureka Consolidated vs. the Richmond. He was president of Fremont's Las Mariposas as well as dozens of other mines. This is one of the few 1860's main lode mines of the Comstock Lode and lies south of the Bullion and north of the Alpha. By 1878 it had been explored down to the 2000-foot level encountering low grade ore all the way. The obverse is signed by the recipient of the certificate. 9"x 4". Very fine. Rare.
