A lot of six framed black and white World War 2 era aircraft photographs, one signed, various frame sizes. Items one through four sport the same metal frame style. Items five and six are a pair as well, both sporting a rosewood frame. Photographs were taken between the 1930s-1950s, framed later. Item one of six is a signed photograph of the North American XB-70 Valkyrie s/n 62-0001. The signature and inscription read, " To Jack West - from one throttle jockey to another - with my very best regards - Al White". Al White was the pilot on the XB-70 Valkyrie s/n 62-0207, the sister plane to 62-0001. During a photoshoot for the XB-70 Valkyrie s/n 62-0207, one the aircrafts taking photos, an F-104 Starfighter, struck the XB-70's vertical stabilizers and left wing and promptly exploded. Due to the damage sustained from the F-104, the Valkyrie went into an uncontrolled spin and crashed north of Barstow, California, killing two of the three pilots. The only survivor, although mangled, was pilot Al White, the signer of the photograph. Photograph is slightly faded due to age and the matte surrounding it is slightly warped. Overall, this remarkable piece is in good condition. Frame is 18-3/8 x 15-11/16 inches. Photograph in matte opening is 10-3/8 x 13-1/8 inches. Item two of six is a framed photograph of nine North American T-6 Texan USAAF AT-6C aircrafts, X-151 through X-159, flying in a diagonal formation over Luke Air Force Base in Maricopa County, Arizona. Photograph is professionally matted and framed. Both frame and matte are in excellent condition. Frame is 20-15/16 x 15-15/16 inches. Photograph in matte opening is 14-11/16 x 10-3/4 inches. Item three of six is a framed photograph of what appear to be Curtiss P-40 Warhawk aircrafts flying in a horizontal formation over clouds. Photograph is professionally framed and matted and is in excellent condition. Frame is 20-15/16 x 15-15/16 inches. Photograph in matte opening is 14-11/16 x 10-3/4 inches. Item four of six is a framed photograph of three North American B-25 Mitchell aircrafts flying through clouds featuring a top and bottom vignette effect. Photograph is professionally framed and matted. Both frame and matte are in excellent condition. Frame is 25 x 21 inches. Photograph in matte opening is 19-11/16 x 15-11/16 inches. Item five of six is a framed photograph of one Polikarpov I-16 flying over what appears to be hills and grassland. It is housed in a professionally matted frame. Rosewood frame does have slight water damage and the varnish is slightly rubbed away in some locations. The matte and photograph are in excellent condition. Frame is 21 x 18-1/4 inches. Photograph in matte opening is 13-5/16 x 9-9/13 inches. Item six of six is a framed photograph of three Boeing P-26 aircrafts flying down a runway with a communications tower pictured in the background. Taped to the front is a piece of paper written on a typewriter. The inscription reads, "Boeing P-26. Top speed 235 MPH. First flown 1931 and was Army Air Corps first all-metal pursuit plane and first monoplane fighter." It is housed in a professionally matted frame. Rosewood frame does have slight water damage and the varnish is slightly rubbed away in some locations. The matte and photograph are in excellent condition. Frame is 21 x 18-1/4 inches.
