34 mission typed mission reports. From easy with little flak to being shot up. Includes tales of B-29's lost in combat and Japanese fighters exploding in mid air. Crew is oft mentioned. "We started a bombing run on burning Koto." Can't believe how many troops were on the small island of Iwo. Bombing run over Tokyo. "Lt. Westerfelt ditched. He and his bombardier were killed." Etc. Very interesting reading and great historical information! The 497th Bombardment Group was a group of the United States Army Air Forces and Twentieth Air Force during World War II. The 497th flew the Boeing B-29 Superfortress and were engaged in very heavy bombardment operations against Japan. Its aircraft were identified by a “A” and a square painted on the tail. They flew from 1943 to 1946. Stuart Mackenzie Collection
