Dealer hoard lot of about 500 red and blue O.P.A. 1944 ration tokens. Fiber, 16 mm. Sorted into envelopes by letter combinations. There are 28 red and 22 blue envelopes. OPA stands for "Office of Price Administration".The agency rationed items, and fixed prices to prevent inflation during World War Two. These tokens were used to make change for people buying food with ration stamps. Ten of these tokens equalled one ration stamp. The OPA was also called "Office of Overpriced Administrators." The red OPA tokens were for things like meats and fats, while the blue were for processed foods. Blue are rarer than red; some collectors look for the 30 different letter combinations for the red tokens and 24 letter combinations for the blue. Some of the more rare letter combinations are: MV, WC, WH and MM. They were discontinued in 1945. A complete set of all 54 letter combinations sold at Stacks Bowers Baltimore auction November, 2021 for $168!
