Rare Tem Piute Mining District, Lincoln County, Nevada. Inc. July 25th, 1878. No. 434, issued for 150 shares to James Clews on Oct. 21, 1879. Signed by the vice-president and secretary. Not cancelled. Yellow colored paper trimmed tight. Folds and some toning on reverse of folds. 4" x 9.25" Not a large producer. The Tem Piute Mining District was organized a few months after silver was found in 1868. Mining remained difficult due to a lack of water in the region. Water had to be hauled in from springs 12 miles away. The Wyandotte Silver Mining Co. that shipped quantities for processing to nearby Crescent. The dismantling of the ten-stamp mill there all but halted mining here until the later findings of tungsten in 1916.
