Lot of 2 different checks. Charles Burcham, Frederic Moores and John Singleton discovered gold in 1895 on what would become Rand Mountain. First named the Rand mine, confusion with other stock-jobbers using Rand in their name, the mine was soon renamed the Yellow Aster. It was instrumental in founding the town of Randsburg, and by 1900 had produced more than $3 million. These checks are both signed by John Singleton and Charles' wife Rose Burcham. She was the company secretary due to her being more astute and business-like than the men. One check, dated 1901, bears an RN-X7 imprinted revenue. It has a single fold and light wear. The other, dated 1913, has no imprint but does have much stronger signatures. It also has a strong fold, small hole cancels, and a small piece of transparent tape. Also included is a sepia photo of the three mine discoverers and another of Rose Burcham.
