Deep folds with some separation. 8.25 x 11.25" Incorporated Oct. 1880 to plan the townsite of Glendive. Ownership of the townsites was divided between this company and the Northern Pacific Railroad. President Lewis Merrill (1834–1896) was a career officer in the United States Army noted for his work in resisting the early Ku Klux Klan organization in several Southern states. During the American Civil War, he combated guerrillas in Missouri. On January 13, 1866, President Andrew Johnson nominated Merrill for appointment to the grade of brevet brigadier general. Merrill commanded the army's railroad escort that protected the Northern Pacific railroad workers from Indian attacks. Ken Prag Collection
