# 73 for 25 shares to DL Healey. Signed by AC Chapman and president R. M. Daggett. Dateline Virginia N. T. 1864. Incorporated April 11, 1863. Virginia Mining District. Small 20c and 5c revenue stamps. Clipper ship and eagle vignette. Not cancelled. Outside of discoloration at the folds, in almost perfect condition. The property is noted on Bancroft’s 1865 map, located just north of the North Ophir and the Mexican mines and the Summit Mill on the Comstock Ledge. R. M. Daggett is none other than Rollin Mallory Daggett. In 1862, Daggett came to Virginia City. The following year, he joined the Nevada Territorial Council. In 1864, he became an assistant to Joseph Goodman, co-owner of the Territorial Enterprise. Daggett was recognized as one of the chief members of the Sagebrush School of Writing. When William Sharon purchased the Enterprise in 1873 to aid him in winning an election for United States Senator, he made Daggett editor-in-chief. Daggett left that position in 1878 to represent Nevada in Congress where he was a critic of the Central Pacific Railroad's unfair freighting costs.
