No. 89, issued for 40 shares to Miller & Hughes in 1888. Signed by president J. Churchill and the secretary. Pen cancelled. Nice locomotive vignette. Pinholes, folds, toning, piece missing on left border. 4.25 x 9.5" Located at Yreka, Siskiyou County, this short line only ran between Yreka and Montague. Today it operates the "Blue Goose," a tourist run between the two towns. The Yreka Railroad Co. was incorporated in May 1888 opened in January 1889, connecting Yreka to the Southern Pacific Company lessor Central Pacific Railroad ( former California and Oregon Railroad). Decision to build the Yreka Railroad was partly due to the Southern Pacific's decision to bypass Yreka in favor of a shorter, and more level route through the Shasta Valley and the city of Montague. Citizens of Yreka formed their own railroad so they wouldn't be without one. Used to move passengers and local freight. In August 1933, was re-incorporated as the Yreka Western Railroad Company. Union Pacific Railroad acquired the SP connection at Montague in 1995.
