Place of Business: Nevada Territory. Timbuctoo was half way between Marysville and Grass Valley. It had a two year period of great excitement, of when this certificate was issued. Not cancelled. Black border and print with green background and an eagle vignette. 25 cent adhesive revenue stamp attached at left. Folds with minor separation, bent corner. Newspapers of the day put this mine in the Washington Mining District. This was the furthest south district, below Kingston. The district and the town of Washington both gained great notoriety in 1862, but fizzled by 1864. The area stayed populated, but for agricultural reasons. The Yuba seemed to be gone by 1865 after five assessments! Research on the mine, district, Timbuctoo and mining camp of Washington included.
