It was the 1940’s, America was deeply involved in world War II, Reno was rapidly becoming ‘Sin City. And the Club Fortune was the place to be. It opened in 1937 and immediately gained prominence as one of reno’s largest gaming parlors. On the east side of the building was the Tango (bingo) Room, complete with many electronic innovations in gambling. On the west side was the lounge, bar and gaming tables. Decorations throughout the club were elaborate and gamblers and revelers alike felt the affluence of the Club Fortune. The Club would attract top name entertainers like Sammy Davis Jr. and Liberace.

Joe Zemansky was a character himself. Before he came to Reno he owned a gambling parlor in Kansas City, had a chain of jewelry stores in Southern California, was part owner of the famous Aquascalientes Resort in Mexico and managed the black heavyweight champion Jack Johnson. He became the owner of Club Fortune a few months after it opened and closed its doors in 1947 after a ten-year run. [The rise of the Biggest Little City by Kling.] This exquisite piece of furniture comes directly from the Zemansky family. Painted gold, cured glass and three French style scenes make this the perfect piece to show off your most valuable treasures from this historic family.
