Utah Construction Company was founded in 1900 and built the O'Shaughnessy Dam across the Tuolumne River creating the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in 1917. In the early 1930s, the company was instrumental in forming the Six Companies that built Hoover Dam. They were the civilian contractor who built the Alaska Highway in 1942 as the first overland route between the contiguous US and Alaska. In the 1950s, Utah Construction became Utah Construction and Mining Co. which developed mines in Peru, Wyoming, and the Navajo Coal Mine and Four Corners Power Plant. This pristine Zippo lighter is a commemorative of that era. It is in new-in-the-original-box condition. See photo for details. The company sold the construction business to Fluor Corporation in 1969, and the remainder, as Utah International, merged with General Electric in 1976 -- the largest corporate merger ever at that time. GE later sold Utah International to BHP in 1984.
