Unquestionably one of the finest Zuni squash blossom necklaces, this one expertly crafted by world-renowned Zuni artist Vera Luna, and a featured work in Gilbert Ortega's Bicentennial catalog, 1975, p7 (unpaginated). Five large peyote birds adorn each side of the necklace, each 3.5" long in typical beautiful Zuni style of bright sky-blue turquoise, red coral, mother of pearl, and black rock. Comes with matching ear rings. The work is unsigned. Luna was born in Zuni, New Mexico in 1930. She became an artist in 1970 and was well known for her silver channel inlay, which became very popular in the 1970s, and was particularly attractive to collector Frank Lewton during that period. Luna was noted as "one of the all-time great Zuni artists" by one of the many unnamed Zuni biographers. Lewton Collection. [
