Original engraved view titled "San Francisco" by WL Ormsby, c.1855. 5.5 x 9" Has 4pp. of accompanying text titled "San Francisco" by Rev. Isaac M. Sherman, DD. This is probably an improved version of a wood engraving c.1848. Ormsby was one of the founders of Continental Bank Note Co. He also invented the "grammagraph" used to copy medals and scenes on banknote scenes.
