Auction Details

Welcome to the Pike’s Peak or Bust! Auction, our first live auction of 2023 and coming off the world-record-breaking SS Central America Part I auction in December 2022.

This four-day auction has collectibles in over a dozen categories including Bottles, Railroadiana, Native Americana, Mining, Numismatics, Art, Stocks, Militaria, and General Americana. With a healthy dose of exciting Colorado and Western States material, we decided to name this auction in honor of the great Colorado Gold Rush of 1859!

Featured Collections & Highlights

*The Gary Bracken Collection, Part IV*
We continue to offer great rarities from the collection of Ponca City lawyer Gary Bracken. This sale includes Native Americana (arrowheads); tokens (Colorado, Missouri, and Oklahoma); Colorado medicine bottles, whiskey jugs, and stoneware; Colorado, Indian Territory, and Oklahoma billhead collections, and more.

*Numismatics feat. Nevada Banknotes*
Our Day 4 is all numismatics, starting with thirteen different Nevada banknotes, including the $20 Nixon National Bank signed by George Nixon. The section also has US coins (incl. Carson City Morgans); medals incl. a U.S. Grant Silver Peace Medal; and a large offering of tokens (Colorado, Missouri, and Oklahoma).

*Early American Political Collection*
We’re very excited to offer important documents from the 1700s and 1800s from the estate of John Hyatt. This group includes autographed pieces from Benjamin Franklin, Grover Cleveland, and James Buchanan.

*Art*
A group of signed prints and books from Ansel Adams; signed prints from famous photographer Paul Strand; signed Salvador Dali pieces; beautiful wood and stone sculptures; and more.

*Railroadiana*
A new big group of railroad and steamer passes, always a big hit with our collectors! Also railroad artifacts including keys, locks, and lanterns. If you have a pass collection you’re ready to sell, please let us know!

*Stocks & Bonds*
We are thrilled to offer more rare Colorado mining stocks from a private collection, as well as Colorado railroad stocks and autograph pieces incl. Wells & Fargo and Jay Gould. Some of the mining stocks in this sale are pieces we have not offered before.

*Native Americana*
In addition to Oklahoma points from the Bracken Collection, our Native Americana section also has kachinas, pine crafts/basketry, and ephemera including art and photographs.

*Militaria & Antique Firearms*
In addition to pieces from the Sherman Collection, we’re also offering rare military collectibles from a few other private collections. This sale has items from the Civil War, Indian Wars, and both World Wars including photographs, autographed documents, and artifacts. The Firearms Section has early shotguns, muskets, and ammunition collectibles.

*General Americana*
Photographs, rare documents, books, and artifacts from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Oklahoma/Indian Territory, and more. Includes a rare Virgil Earp Tombstone autograph from the Jim & Barbara Sherman Private Western Mining Museum! Smaller categories include: Cowboy, Sports, Books, Jewelry, Toys/Model Railroad, and hard goods.

*Mining*
Minerals and fossil plates; rare Western mining ephemera from Colorado and Nevada; and some mining artifacts incl. spoons, tags, and mercury jugs.
